I love a good party but I've never really been drunk

It's good to be back in the UK. Yes, I had my final overseas trip this month for the summer run of gigs and was back in Tenerife for the last time. Although it's been great to travel, it's also nice to know the familiar run to and from Manchester Airport is over for another year.

Hopefully next year, I'll be able to fly from Birmingham Airport, which will make life even easier. I've met some truly wonderful people on my travels. I can't wait to do it all again.

However, it was great to be back in time for Bonfire Night. Okay, so most people had the big bonfires a few days earlier than the traditional November 5 date, but they were all enjoyable nonetheless.

I was one of those celebrating Guy Fawkes night with Balls To Cancer. They put on a beautiful fireworks display at Garden Village, Bridgnorth Road. But my goodness it was cold.

And happy belated Diwali to you all too. Between Diwali and Bonfire Night, you probably don't even need to leave your house to see a fantastic firework display. I do feel sorry for dogs though. We have an Alsatian who was going mad – and that was after we'd brought her indoors.

It's since being home that I've realised it's not long to go until Christmas. Can you believe it's less than six weeks until the big day? I can't.

Everywhere I go there are lights and tinsel in all the town centres. I've actually heard a few Christmas songs playing while I've been out shopping. I guess that means it's time to start getting into the festive spirit. This can only mean one thing: Christmas party season starts now and will soon be in full flow.

For me, this includes secret Santa at the record label, which never actually seems to stay that secret. Co-workers looking forward to a tasty Christmas lunch followed by pulling a cracker or two. And then, of course, there's the abundance of alcohol and open bars to reward everyone for their hard work throughout the year. Not to sound like an over-bearing bah humbug-type of a responsible mum but please stay safe. I'd never want to spoil anyone's enjoyment but whether you are young or old safety must come first.

I'm someone who – don't laugh – has never been drunk. Don't get me wrong, people have tried over the years, but failed miserably. I drink so slowly that a drink can last me for hours.

Those who know me well will also know that I like most alcoholic beverages, so it's not as if I'm picky. However, I must give my body enough time between drinks to limit its effect, and I therefore remain sober.

While you're all out and about enjoying the party season, just make sure if you're not in a position to take care of yourself that you're with someone who can. It might sound obvious now but ladies, make sure you book taxis from reputable firms especially if you're travelling home alone at the end of the night. Gents, do just that, be a gentleman and make sure the women in your group get home safely.

And to all the men out there, make sure you too take care, as there are some very silly people out and about in towns at the moment, who look for trouble for no reason.

You've all worked so hard throughout the course of the year and more than deserve to let your hair down, so do just that.

Just remember to take good care of each other while you do and have fun.
