All eyes will be on Zoe Forrester this weekend when she features in the Shrewsbury Carnival procession.

The 17-year-old said she was looking forward to Saturday's big day, although she admitted she had some nerves about the parade, which will be seen by thousands of people lining the streets.

Instead of travelling in a float, the carnival queen will be in an open-topped Jaguar.

"I've been in the carnival a couple of times with the Topaz Dance School," said Zoe, "but I've never done anything in the carnival as big as this."

Zoe, who is an apprentice with food company Leslie's Larder, said she would also accompany town Mayor Beverley Barker in judging stalls in Quarry Park.

Zoe became Carnival Queen in February after winning a competition.

"My friends were all quite surprised," she said.

"I wasn't sure I was going to enter and then I won it."

Last year's carnival raised £5,000 for charity and this year's is entitled Carnival Goes on Holiday.

More than 25 floats will enter in to the spirit of things.
