It was already set to be the heaviest tour of the year, now Swedish Viking-metal heroes Amon Amarth are to join headliners Slayer on this year's Unholy Alliance package.

They are joining a bill which includes the Californian thrash legends along with Trivium and Mastodon, and which will roar into Wolverhampton Civic Hall on October 28.

Says Amon Amarth frontman Johan Hegg: "All of us have been huge fans of Slayer since the mid 80s, and to be able to tour with this legendary thrash band is a dream come true.

"We are very proud and honoured to be a part of this year's Unholy Alliance, together with Trivium and Mastodon.

Amon Amarth"Slayer fans are die-hard and tough as true Vikings – we know as we are part of the same crowd - and it will be a great experience to be able to play in front of them."

This is the third Unholy Alliance tour, having been launched in 2004 and revived in 2006, each time with Slayer as headliners.

Founded in 1981, Slayer were part of the American thrash metal movement which spawned Metallica, Anthrax, and Megadeth.

They achieved notoriety in 1986 with the release of Reign in Blood, which has been called "the heaviest album of all time".
