Unless otherwise informed, organisers are expecting them to deliver a fantastic headline appearance as planned." Reports are circulating that guitarist Nick McCabe could walk out, just days before their performance at this weekend's sell-out extravaganza at Weston Park.

But V Festival spokesman Matt Holmes, said today: "V Festival has not been informed The Verve will not be appearing at this year's festival.

"Unless otherwise informed, organisers are expecting them to deliver a fantastic headline appearance as planned."

The Verve was forced to draft in a replacement for the festival 10 years ago, when McCabe left the group just weeks before the event.

About 90,000 revellers are expected to descend on the grounds of the stately home on Saturday and Sunday.

Some of the biggest names in music are set to perform, including Lenny Kravitz, Muse, Stereophonics, Kaiser Chiefs and The Feeling.

Duffy, Alanis Morissette, Will Young, Kings of Leon and The Charlatans are also due to perform.

Police today also urged festival-goers to protect themselves and keep their belongings safe.

CCTV will be monitored throughout the event to provide security and police will be also be using automatic number plate recognition cameras to identify drivers with no insurance, no tax, bans, who are wanted by police or have a stolen vehicle.
