Lynyrd SkynyrdSouthern rock legends Lynyrd Skynyrd today announced a UK tour for next May which includes a concert at Birmingham NIA Academy.

The band is playing four arena shows on the tour, which includes the NIA Academy on Thursday May 28.

It is Lynyrd Skynyrd's first UK tour for six years. The band is currently writing the follow-up to its 2003 release Vicious Cycle which spawned the hit single Red White and Blue.

Lynyrd Skynyrd's epic hits include Freebird, complete with one of the most famous guitar solos in history, and the Southern anthem Sweet Home Alabama – recently featured on Kid Rock's summer smash All Summer Long.

The group still features original members Gary Rossington on guitar and Billy Powell on piano, and is now fronted by lead singer Johnny Van Zant, the younger brother of former lead vocalist Ronnie Van Zant who died in a plane crash in 1977 along with several other band members and crew.

Tickets for the Birmingham NIA Academy concert go on general sale from 9am this Friday, November 28 and cost £38.50 plus booking fee.
