A Californian singer/songwriter who has earned praise from BBC Radio 2 is planning a one-off show in Shropshire at Oswestry's Ironworks.

Walter Strauss will appear at the venue on May 17 as part of a British tour that will take him to all corners of the UK.

His show will come just days after he records a session with BBC Radio 2 Americana specialist Bob Harris.

Concert spokesman James Soars said the gig was eagerly anticipated, adding: "As soon as Walter arrives in the UK, he will go straight to the studios of BBC Radio 2 to record a live session for the Bob Harris Saturday show.

"That show is due to be broadcast on May 9. Then it is straight out on the road to play at venues up and down the UK, including the Bournemouth Folk Club, Twickenham Folk Club and an appearance at London's premier folk roots night, the Kalamazoo Klub on June 2."

Strauss will be promoting his recently-released new album Pulling Shadows. He has appeared in Oswestry before as the special guest of fellow Californian singer songwriter Corinne West.
