Morrissey has set a new date for his concert at Symphony Hall after he was forced to postpone it last week due to illness.

He will now perform at the Birmingham venue on Friday, October 23, 2009. Original tickets will remain valid for the new date, but if customers cannot make the new date they will receive a refund.

Any remaining tickets for the rescheduled date will cost £32.50.

A statement on the 49-year-old singer's website said Morrissey had been "on continued doctor's orders to rest, to ensure a complete recuperation".

The former Smiths frontman was also forced to cancel an appearance on TV show Later With Jools Holland and at London's Royal Albert Hall.

The singer previously cancelled 11 gigs while on his 18 month global Greatest Hits tour in 2007/08 because of throat problems
