An award-winning British folk musician is planning a one-off concert in Ludlow to promote his newly-released cd.

Martin Simpson, whose recent album Prodigal Son won the BBC Radio 2 Folks Awards' best album, will release a new cd, True Stories, on August 3, and play Ludlow Assembly Rooms on December 11.

Today his spokeswoman, Clare Horton, said he was looking forward to playing the concert and hoped lots of people would attend. She said Shropshire had a great reputation as a centre for folk and roots music and he was looking forward to playing the venue.

Simpson is playing a number of concerts during the summer, though none in Shropshire. He will play Cambridge Folk Festival on August 1 and is also playing venues across Europe as part of a tour to promote True Stories.

Simpson is known as one of the UK's foremost guitar players and has written guitar instruction books and recorded DVD guitar tutorials. He has worked with some of the nation's most famous folk musicians, including June Tabor and Martin Carthy.

In recent years, he has appeared on Jools Hollands' BBC Show and also performed a half-hour set at The Proms in July last year, which was broadcast on Radio 4. Tickets for the Ludlow concert are available from the venue, in Mill Street. Further details on True Stories are available from www.martinsimpson.com
