The English Chamber Orchestra is to perform at St Chad's Church.

The orchestra has performed in more countries than any other orchestra, recorded more than 1,200 works and played with all of the world's leading soloists in its 50-year history.

It will take to the stage at St Chad's Church in Shrewsbury at 7.30pm on Tuesday as part of Shropshire Music Trust's 2009 to 2010 season.

Organisers say the performance will reflect the orchestra's place in Britain's musical heritage and the programme will include the piece to mark the Prince of Wales birthday - Three Welsh Songs for Strings by Huw Watkins.

It will also include performances of Mozart's Flute Concerto in D K314 and his Symphony No 40 in G Minor K550, in addition to Britten's Variations on a Theme of Frank Bridge.

Music trust director Kate Hogwood said: "This concert promises to be a superb evening's entertainment.

"One of the world's greatest living orchestras, the ECO has performed in more countries than any other orchestra, recorded over 1,200 works and played with all the world's greatest soloists in its 50-year history.

"The concert, sponsored by James, Holyoak & Parker, is supported by the Arts Council's Orchestra Live national touring scheme, which has enabled us to bring many of the world's greatest orchestras to Shropshire over the past few years and some unforgettable evenings to the beautiful acoustic of St Chad's."
