Star-studded events lined up at theatre

Chart hero Newton Faulkner heads a star-studded spring line-up at Shrewsbury's Theatre Severn, with performances also planned by the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra and entertainer Jane McDonald.

Faulkner has just announced a 15-date tour, starting in Shrewsbury, and he will play songs from his number one debut album Hand Built By Robots, as well as the number three follow-up, Rebuilt By Humans.

Today Jan Edmondson, marketing manager at the theatre, said: "Newton is famous for his soulful and heartfelt acoustic blues with a pop edge and a distinctly laid-back style. Hailed by many as the new Jack Johnson, his music covers many genres, including folk, blues, soul and country."

The spring programme at Theatre Severn also features a number of other big name performances.

The City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra will appear on January 15 with performances of works by Brahms and Sibelius.

Jake & Elwood will bring their The Best Blues Brothers Show In The World . . . EVER!!! to the theatre on January 16.

Some of the UK's best known folk musicians will appear on January 20 under the banner Imagined Village. Among the star players will be Martin Carthy, Eliza Carthy and Chris Wood.

More drama will follow from February 8 to 13 with a production of Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice, starring Susan Hampshire.

One of Britain's best loved divas, Jane McDonald, will headline on April 24 for a magical evening of music and laughter.
