Chart-topping Midlands' band Slade is to headline a Shropshire town's first arts and entertainment festival which takes place this year.

The band, with original members Dave Hill and Don Powell, will play a concert to celebrate the Shifnal Arts Festival, which will run from September 18 to 26.

Besides Slade, which had smash hits with C'Mon Feel The Noize and Mama We're All Crazee Now, the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra will provide a different music option as organisers attempt to feature all forms of entertainment in the festival line-up.

Shifnal Town Council's finance and general purposes committee chairwoman, Alison Jackson, said it was a major boost for the town to persuade Slade and the CBSO to perform at the festival.

"It is a great coup for Shifnal," she told councillors at a meeting last night.

The CBSO will perform at the town's St Andrew's Church on September 25. A date and venue for the Slade concert is to be confirmed.
