A young Shropshire music group has been selected to play in the National Festival of Music for Youth.

Fiddlesticks is the Shropshire Music Service's folk fiddle group.

Top players from the group have been asked to be the headline act in this year's two Class Act concerts at the Theatre Severn.

Conductor and manager Beverley Beynon said: "They will be role models for all the young violinists who learn violin in school with Shropshire Music Service as part of the Wider Opportunities Scheme."

The concerts at Theatre Severn are at 6.15pm on Tuesday and Wednesday.

Members of the Fiddlesticks come from Priory School, Belvidere School, Mary Webb School and Meole Brace School.

Beverley added: "Fiddlesticks rehearse once a month on Thursdays between 5pm to 7pm at Oakmeadow School, Bayston Hill, and we are always looking for new members."
