One of Shropshire's biggest festivals is on course for another sell-out.

With still more than a month to go before the Shrewsbury Folk Festival, day tickets for the event on August 27, 28, and 29 have all sold out, and organisers say there are only a handful still available for the final day at the West Mid Showground on August 30.

They said they expect weekend tickets, covering all four days of the event and allow camping on site, to be snapped up well in advance of August Bank Holiday weekend.

Today festival director Alan Surtees, who started at music festival in Bridgnorth with his wife Sandra, in 1997, said: "We still have weekend tickets available, but these are selling slightly ahead of last year and we are confident they will all be gone ahead of the festival.

"Once tickets have sold out, there will be no more made available on the gate during the festival."

This year's headliners include The Afro Celt Sound System, Cara Dillon, Billy Bragg, Bellowhead and Adrian Edmondson and the Bad Shepherds.

Meanwhile big name stars including Lily Allen, Radiohead's Thom Yorke, r'n'b sensation Kelis and Massive Attack will top the bill at the three-day music Big Chill festival near Leominster.

The event is at Eastnor Castle Deer Park on August 5-8. For details visit www.bigchill.net/festival or to book call Ticketline on 0844 888 4411.
