Bands keen to do battle in contest

Local groups have been quick off the mark to enter the third annual Shropshire Star Battle of the Bands to be held at The Ironworks, in Oswestry.

Local groups have been quick off the mark to enter the third annual Shropshire Star Battle of the Bands to be held at The Ironworks, in Oswestry.

It comprise four heats and a grand final.­

It was launched on Monday and a number of local bands have already sent in music, photographs and biographies.

Event spokesman Andy Richardson said: "We're delighted that bands have been quick to submit their entries to us. We're looking for the best bands in the region, we're keen to unearth new talent and create a platform for it."

The first band to submit its entry was rock quartet Madoc Vanguard while Arcade Parade followed quickly in their footsteps.

The four-piece indie/rock band hail from Newport/Telford and features Jacob Ferguson, 15, brothers Ollie and Elliot Scott, 14 and 12, and drummer Dan Byrne, 12.

The latest band to enter is Moonfleet, a soft-rock band from Telford, featuring Sam Jones on vocals and guitar, Ben Folger on guitar and vocals, Ben Degg on drums and Tom Seymore on bass.

Bands can enter the Battle of the Bands 2010 by e-mailing music, biographies, photographs and links to websites to arichard son@shropshirestar.co.uk
