It's not due to happen until September, but fans of unsigned music in Shropshire and Telford & Wrekin ought to make a date in their diaries for the Park Live Festival.

The event is planned for Telford Town Park on September 3 and an exciting line-up has been confirmed for the annual festival.

Jenny McGregor, from Telford and Wrekin Council, said: "A host of local bands have been selected to play at the festival including indie/ska band Fight The Bear, from Bishop's Castle, funk/rock band Mezzotonic, from Shrewsbury; rock/pop band Hill Valley High, from Telford; alternative/electro/ rock combo Give Chase, from Telford; bluesy acid folk and grunge band Pre-Sleep Monologue, from Shropshire; rock/indie/alternative act People Are Things, also from Shropshire, and rock/metal act Broken, from Telford."

Miss McGregor added that there would also be an addition to the bill. She said: "With seven bands selected, one place remains for a lucky 'wild card' to perform.

Five bands are on the shortlist that will be decided in August through a radio listeners' vote.

"The bands include grunge/rock band Twisted Species, from Telford; rock/indie band The Poet Dogs, from Shrewsbury; indie pop/punksters The Making, from Newport/Lilleshall; ska/punksters Ramblin Goblin, from Telford and rock/grunge/ blues/funk band Tyburn Drop, from Telford."

Park Live is now in its third year and has successfully established itself as a high-profile event on the festival calendar.

Last year's attracted almost 6,000 music lovers of all ages who enjoyed a great day out in Telford Town Park.

And a total of 52 bands applied to play at this year's festival from a range of genres.

Telford & Wrekin Council Arts & Events Officer, Janice Williams, said: "Park Live is an exciting festival that showcases local talent to a wide audience. We received a really high standard of entries to play at this year's festival and choosing the final line-up hasn't been easy. I think the final mix of bands, however, is really diverse and will be well received by festival-goers.

"We would also like to thank our sponsors Keim Mineral Paints for their support with the festival. It is invaluable to have a local company on board with a high profile event like Park Live."

Ad Morris from alternative electro band, Give Chase, added: "We are super excited to be playing Park Live. It's been the busiest and biggest year for Give Chase yet and to play back in our home town, at the biggest music event, is ace. All we can say is boys get ready to dance and girls get ready to mosh."

Admission to the festival and all activities is free.
