The Shrewsbury Folk Festival is planned for August 23-26 and will feature the best talents from around the world.

The event, which was formerly held in Bridgnorth, has proved popular with people from around the world – thousands tune in to live broadcasts from the site and some even fly in especially.

The event has a huge travelling contingent of fans from around the UK, with plenty of locals joining in the fun.

Today event spokeswoman Jo Cunningham said there was great anticipation for this year's festival.

She said: "We are back again, brimming with new ideas for 2013. We have some terrific artists confirmed for next year and some we are still working on. You can expect some of the top names from across the world, top names from the UK, and some of our best local talent. Most of all , we have tried to find performers and combinations of artists that you wouldn't necessarily find at other events – there are many festivals so we want you to expect something unique at Shrewsbury.

"Festivals should reinforce your enjoyment of existing performers and send you on a voyage of discovery, and that is what Shrewsbury Folk Festival is all about."
