Dawn of bright career – Carron Dawn Wright has been getting lots of attention from the music press

A singer-songwriter from Telford is heading for the spotlight after releasing her debut EP earlier this year.

Carron Dawn Wright, originally from Dawley, released You Promised on Meridiem Records earlier this year, and since then her music has been spreading worldwide.

Carron, a former pupil at Captain Webb Primary School and Thomas Telford, said: "It's been a bit crazy and I didn't expect what's happened.

"13 is unlucky for some, but it's always been my lucky number and it's funny that this year is the year it's all taken a turn for the better.

"This year has been surreal, it's a strange feeling that people are actually listening to your music."

Critics from all over the country have been describing Carron's music as a mix between Kate Bush and Adele.

She said: "The EP is selling well, I'm getting some really good reviews, people love the sound they think it's something really new, but also current.

"They're all saying they love the theatrical element to the music and that they love my voice which is absolutely amazing to hear.

"I must be doing something right."

Carron's debut EP, released on May 21, featured a number of songs which she said were based on her time growing up in Shropshire and particularly on friends and family who still live in the area. She said: "I still have so many friends still up in Telford so I still have a really strong connection with the place.

"Now I'm beginning work on my next album and I'm still carrying those links through.

"One of the songs on the album is for my grandfather, which I've called For You, there's another one about my parents and one, which I'm still finishing the lyrics for, that focuses on my time growing up.

"As well as my life in Shropshire, there are also songs about leaving, growing up and starting my own adventures."

While releasing her EP, Carron filmed the video for the song January's Cold in a field in Dawley, something she wants to follow in this next album.

Carron has just finished a tour and is now returning to the studio to work on her next, as yet untitled, album which will be released in May 2014.

She plans to return for an Autumn tour later this year to debut some of her new tracks, and hopes that one of her destinations will be Telford. She said: "I really want to come home and do a gig, I've been asking my parents to look around for venues where I could jam with my band, it would be good fun.

"I'd really like to come home and do a charity concert to raise money for Telford to give something back."

Carron Dawn Wright's Debut EP You Promised is currently on sale in the iTunes store.
