Best in alt-country lining up at festival

The world's best acoustic, alt-country and Americana bands will line-up in two weeks time in mid-Wales for the annual Green Man Festival. The event has been dubbed 'The Welsh Glastonbury'.

Kings of Convenience, Midlake, Band of Horses, The Horrors, John Cale, Ben Howard and Local Natives will be among the highlights at the event, in the Black Mountains, from August 15-18.

There will also be sets from Edwyn Collins, The Pastles, Phosphorescent, Low, Roy Harper, Lord Huron, Ryan Rancesconi & Mirabai Peart, Stornoway, Johnny Flynn and the Sussex Wit and Lau.

Others lining up include Sam Amidon, Julia Holter, Peggy Sue, The Slow Show, Zervas and Pepper, Ellen and The Escapades, Fernhill and Fanfarlo.

The event features a number of stages across the showground, including the Far Out stage, which will feature Patti Smith and Tony Shanahan, Darkstar, Villagers, Swans, British Sea Power, Steve Mason, James Yorkston, Archie Bronson Outfit, Unknown Mortal Orchestra and Woods. The Walled Garden Stage will showcase the talents of Rachel Zeffira, Teleman, Buke and Gase, Allah-Las, Olof Arnalds, Veronica Falls, Half Moon Run and Public Service Broadcasting.

Green Man also features the best in new and emerging comedy with Angela Barnes, Suzi Ruffell, Caroline Mabey, Gavin Osborn, Josh Widdicombe, Maeve Higgins, Elis James, Mike Bubbins, Pappy's, Jarred Christmas, Holly Burn and Joel Dommett.

The spotlight will also shine on an eclectic line-up of alternative events in Einstein's Garden, including A Cappella – The Musical, Being 747, Bert Miller and the Animal Folk, The Rise of Insect Superpowers, Ugly Animal Preservation Society, Lori Campbell and Dr Complex and The Funomenals.

Meanwhile, a series of talks are planned in the Talking Shop area from established authors including Frances Morgan, Caitlin Moran, Mark Pilkington, Julian Cope, Owen Sheers, Bob Stanley, Rhian E Jones, Pete Brown, Robert Wyatt and James Yorkston.

The event will also feature a Cinema Tent with highlights including Withnail and I, From Wrexham to Wuhan, Karl Hyde- The Outer Edges, Casey and Ewan's Crystal Massage, The National – Mistaken For Strangers, Fence Records, LCD Soundsystem – Shut Up and Play The Hits, The Most Gigantic Lying Mouth of All Time and Minima – Crossways.

Green Man will also shine the spotlight on new and emerging talents like Christopher Rees, Laurence Made Me Cry, Yr Ods, Casi Wyn, Radstewart, Christian Pattemore, Molly Wagger, Cosmos Collapse, Box of Light, Dan Bettridge, The Wild Oats, Early Ghost, Chinese Missy, Little Arrow, R.Seiliog and Winter Villains.
