Levellers take Shrewsbury Buttermarket by storm
Folk rockers The Levellers delighted 1,000 of their fans with a sell-out performance in Shrewsbury, writes Chris Burn.
The band delivered a 90-minute set at The Buttermarket in Shrewsbury last night and are already booked for a return show next year.
Martin Monahan, owner of nightclub, said: "The Levellers completely stormed The Buttermarket.
"The audience were absolutely loving it.
"It's amazing that The Buttermarket has become such a great live music venue, with bands like The Levellers packing the place out, we can't wait to welcome them back to our stage again next year."
The venue has hosted a number of big names this year, including Billy Ocean and The Three Degrees, as well as modern acts such as pop singer Shayne Ward.
Mr Monahan added: "It is great to have folk rock acts selling out as well as the X Factor gigs. It's been a big year for us this year. I can't believe its only 12 months since we opened the main arena."
The Levellers were formed in Brighton in the 1980s and had huge success with their album Levelling the Land.
