Full-price fan's fury at discount tickets offer for T-Live concert

A woman who bought four £35 full price tickets to see McFly at this weekend's T-Live concert in Telford today spoke of her frustration after a discounted batch went on sale online.

Telford & Wrekin Council has made 1,000 tickets available for £21 on discount website Groupon.

The website, which offers people who have signed up to a mailing list special deals for a limited time, is selling the tickets at 40 per cent less than the full price.

In recent weeks, the council has rolled out special offers and competitions to help boost sales.

But Karen Bunning, from Dawley Bank, said it was "disappointing and frustrating" that thousands of people have paid full price only for cheaper tickets to go on sale closer to the day of the concert.

She said: "I have bought tickets for this weekend and then this morning I got an e-mail saying I could buy them for £21. It is really annoying.

"I just feel for the children who have bought tickets at full price and now they could get them for a lot cheaper."

Charlotte Dade, spokeswoman for Telford & Wrekin Council, said the council was using Groupon to market the event.

"We have made the decision to offer tickets on Groupon as another method of marketing T-Live in addition to other offers and competitions that have been running since tickets went on sale," she said.

"Groupon is an extremely popular way in which people access discounted goods, services and events and offering T-Live tickets via this channel is a good way to market the event.

"As many people will know, Groupon is so popular due to the attractive discounts on offer.

"One thousand tickets have been made available on the site and we hope many people will take advantage of the offer.

"We appreciate some people will have purchased tickets at full price.

"However, we have always reserved the rights to run offers and competitions in relation to any of our public events as we see fit in line with individual promotional strategies."
