Thousands head for Shrewsbury Fields Forever festival

Thousands of music lovers are pouring into town today for the start of the Shrewsbury Fields Forever festival.

Organisers of Shrewsbury Fields Forever Festival prepare the venue for this weekend’s event

Bands such as Maximo Park, Athlete and The Sunshine Underground will be performing at the County Showground in Berwick Road between today and Sunday.

Shaun of the Dead star Dylan Moran will headline the comedy tent on Sunday.

Today's warm-up day will include music from local acts The Taste, Doppelganger, MK Zero, Lucidity on The Local Heroes Stage. In the Main Dance Tent, will be a Faithless DJ set from Sister Bliss.

Saturday's show features The Sunshine Underground and Masters in France in addition to Maximo Park and Athlete, while Roni Size will headline the dance tent.

Sunday will be focused on comedy, but Starsailor's James Walsh will be providing the music with an acoustic set. Festival organiser Dene Edwards said: "I cannot express enough the fantastic calibre of acts that are performing across the weekend here in Shrewsbury.

"We have tried to provide something for everyone so although some of acts such as Maximo Park and Athlete may be very well known to some people, there are some really gifted people, from internationally acclaimed to local acts, that everyone will be able to enjoy."
