McFly take Telford travel conference by storm
Chart-toppers McFly took centre stage at a celebrity packed travel conference held in Shropshire.
More than 1,000 workers from tour operators and travel boards all over the world descended on Telford for the three-day Travel Counsellors conference at Telford International Centre.
On Friday night visitors were entertained by the cast from West End hit musical Jersey Boys before Rob Brydon, comedian and star of BBC sitcom Gavin and Stacey, took to the stage.
The main bulk of the conference itself took place on Saturday before Debra Searle MBE, who rowed across the Atlantic alone in 2002, gave a motivational speech and McFly performed a half-hour set of their greatest hits.
Yesterday it was the turn of West Ham vice-chairman and star of BBC's The Apprentice, Karren Brady, to take to the stage.
Travel Counsellors is a company that creates bespoke holiday packages to meet the needs of its clients. Ros Walsh, who works for the company, said it was a fantastic weekend.
"These events are the highlight of the year for us," she said.
"In the past they have been held in Tenerife, Marbella, and on cruise ships, as well as on the Liverpool Docks and at Manchester's MEN Arena. But the organisers decided to come to Telford this year because of the fantastic facilities on offer at the International Centre.
"We always get a lot of celebrities and this year was no exception. McFly in particular were absolutely fantastic. We had more than 1,000 delegates here from all over the world – people came from Australia and South Africa, such is the high regard it is held in."
TV presenter Amanda Lamb was compere throughout the three-day event.
