The event will take place on Sunday afternoon at St Michael's Church in Lilleshall.

Performing at Lilleshall Live Aid will be Newport's U3A Ukulele Group and The Warblers from Newport's Sing4Fun Community Chior.

There will also be singers, comic turns and monologues and piano performances, as well as an unusual poetry duet.

An auction will also be held where pieces of artglass from Jonathan Harris Studio Glass, produced for Christian Dior and donated by Alison and Jonathan Harris, will be up for grabs.

Katie Foster, one of the organisers, said the night promises to be a fantastic event which she hopes will raise vital funds for refugees. She said: "I've spoken with so many people who are shocked by the suffering of millions in refugee camps in the Middle East, many of whom have been there for years.

"We want to help, particularly with the cold winter coming, and I've been heartened by so much generosity.

"We have some great performers, brilliant promises to auction, wonderful raffle prizes – many donated by Newport High Street businesses – and, of course, traditional tea and home-made cakes.

"There's no admission charge as such but please bring plenty of cash and chequebooks along with a kind heart.

"The money raised will be gift aided – adding another 25 per cent – and will help those in the camps via Christian Aid, who are trying to improve the lives of these poor families who've had to leave their homes.

"Even if you can't come on the day, you can donate online and see some of the fabulous promises we'll be auctioning."

Entry is free and the show starts at 3pm and finishes at 5pm.

All money made will go to Christian Aid's Syria Crisis Appeal which aims to improve conditions in refugee camps.
