The 42-year-old will be performing at the Festival Drayton Centre in Market Drayton on Saturday at 8pm.

Gary, who is originally from Solihull, said he was looking forward to his first visit to the town. He said: "I have done several gigs in Shropshire before but this will be my first in Market Drayton. I have been looking up whether it's known as Drayton or Market Drayton.

"I have heard it's a nice place so it should be fun. I am looking forward to it. I have always found crowds in Shropshire are up for it and don't take themselves too seriously.

"I like a crowd which doesn't mind things a bit rude or darker, and who don't think too seriously."

Gary's last tour was extended four times and took in more than 240 dates. His visit to Market Drayton this weekend forms part of the first leg of his new tour, There's Something About Gary, which will see him travel all over the country.

A regular on Mock the Week, he has won two Sony Awards, as well as receiving a Chortle Award nomination.

He's also a regular writer for shows including Cats Does Countdown, A League of their Own, Live at the Apollo and The Royal Variety Performance, and his jokes have twice appeared in Dave's Top 10 Funniest Jokes from the Edinburgh Fringe. Gary performed his debut show at the Edinburgh Fringe in 2010 and he embarked on his first national tour in 2013. He added: "Jokes are what I do so people can expect lots of jokes. I try and make people laugh as much as possible with four or five jokes a minute.

"I really like it afterwards when people say their face really hurts from laughing. If it doesn't then I am not doing job my properly."

Tickets for the show cost £15 and are available on (01630) 654444.
