Travel review: Waterside Holiday Park and Spa, Weymouth
Ben Lammas enjoys a short break in the Waterside Holiday Park and Spa, Weymouth...
If you're looking for the perfect family holiday spot with a touch of class that's great place to unwind, then look no further than Waterside Holiday Park in Weymouth.
We stay at caravan parks nearly every year and this is undoubtedly up there with the best of them – no wonder it has a five star rating.
Our accommodation in one of the new Capri caravans manufactured by Victory Leisure Homes was spot on, we really couldn't have asked for more.
Brand new for 2016 the Capri models offer three bedrooms, two showers and two toilets, double glazing and central heating. These 13ft wide holiday homes have patio doors that lead out onto the verandah with table and four chairs.
And they certainly cater for the TV lovers here. There were five, yes five TVs mounted on the walls, one for every room, including a flat screen TV with Xbox and headphones in the dining area.
But you really won't want to be stuck in front of the tele with all the fun things to do on your doorstep in this part of the world.
Waterside is right on the beach at Bowleaze Cove, beside one of Dorset's most stunning stretches of coastline. It has been a while since I last visited these parts and I had forgotten just how beautiful the place is and the children revelled in it.
A bus service runs every ten minutes from Waterside to take you down to Weymouth town where you can explore the shops, grab a bite to eat or an ice cream on the sea front.
There is also plenty for the youngsters to do of course.
Ours enjoyed the little rides, helter skelter and trampolines on the beach as well as marvelling at the sand sculptures.
Back at the park and feeling peckish we headed to The Waterside Restaurant, which I must say offered a much better and higher end selection of meals than you get at your run-of-the-mill caravan park.
I was extremely impressed with the Thai Green Curry and the staff were very welcoming and friendly.
For those looking for a quick snack there is also the The Waterside Sports Bar.
With 12 HD TVs broadcasting all the live action from Sky Sports and ESPN, it is definitely the place to be for catching up on your favourite sport and all within view of the arcade and soft play area to keep an eye on the youngsters.
Once finished with our meal it was time to head into the club room where the park's mascot Boomer and the entertainers were waiting to meet the children.
Our two children really enjoyed the evenings we spent at the club house and 'Joshy Washy' the entertainer was a hit. It was also nice to be able to relax with a pint of Dorset Gold while they were busy!
During our short stay we got to enjoy the on-site heated indoor swimming pool – it was a little cold in April for a dip in the outdoor pool. The indoor facility is wonderful, with a separate baby/toddlers pool too.
And for the mums – or dads – looking for a pamper session the park also has its own spa with a range of treatments available and a gym as well.
There is also a shop, takeaway and laundrette on the park.
Away from Waterside the nearby Chesil Beach area in Portland is a lovely place to explore and I can heartily recommend enjoying a beautiful fresh seafood meal at The Crab House Cafe – a little expensive – but well worth it.
