Letter: Music in shops? Please turn down the volume

I would like to use your letters page to ask all those responsible for playing music in shops, precincts, supermarkets, cafes, restaurants etc to please play it less loud and use less pop music.

Published

Most people spending money in these places are adults, or middle aged, and an increasing number are elderly.

The kind of music usually played is for a younger generation, with a lot of it having little or no meaning to older people.

I am sure that many more elderly customers would stay longer and buy more goods if they were not being bombarded with someone else's (inappropriate) choice of music.

At the very least, turn the volume down and keep it in the background.

The least we can expect when shopping is that we can actually hear ourselves think.

Thank you.
