Shropshire historian to host beautiful bluebell walk at Shropshire Hills Discovery Centre

A sure sign that spring has sprung is woodlands full of bluebells – and one of the best places to see them is on the edge of a south Shropshire town.

Local historian Keith Pybus will be taking people on a three-and-a-half-mile 'beautiful bluebell walk' this weekend to make the most of the spectacle while it lasts, and tell a few tales along the way.

The Shropshire Hills Discovery Centre, a charity-run visitor centre on the edge of Craven Arms, is hosting Keith's walk once more on Sunday, following its popularity last year. And with May being National Walking Month it couldn't be more timely.

The walk will start out from the centre at 10.30am and make its way along field paths and quiet lanes, with stunning scenery on the way. Keith, a qualified walks leader and arch storyteller, said: "There's a magic about our bluebell woods which has attracted the nation's poets and made it our most popular wildflower. Britain has between a quarter and half of the world's bluebell population. They are a most precious resource – it takes five years from seed to flower and 35 years for the bulbs to extend their cover by just 70 strides."

The two-hour walk is £5 per person. Booking is advisable on 01588 676060.
