Shrewsbury Food Festival 2017: Food stars lining up for top event

The event is expected to attract up to 25,000 people and the cost is £7 for adults and £15 for families, with full details and online programmes available at www.shrewsburyfoodfestival.co.uk.

Among those taking part in the event are TV Chef Sally Bee, who cooks for ITV’s Lorraine, who will present a demonstration and also cook with festival-goers in the FBC Manby Bowdler pop-up cookery school.

She will be joined by Michelin star holders Nathan Eades, from Simpsons, at Birmingham, which is one of the Top 50 restaurants in the UK, and Stephane Borie, from the starred Checkers Restaurant, in Montgomery.

Shropshire stars will also feature, including Chris Burt, head chef at the Mytton and Mermaid, and ***-AA Rosette holder Karl Martin, from Old Downton Lodge, who has won a slew of awards.

Event chair Andy Richardson said: “It’s great that we’re welcoming household names from the TV, the region’s best Michelin-starred chefs and, of course, the finest cooks from Shropshire.

“We’re continuing to work with our chef demonstration stage sponsors, Wenlock Spring, to deliver the best chef line-up of any festival in our region.

“This year’s is the best yet and we can’t wait to see the chefs cooking.”

The festival will feature 200 exhibitors with the best food and drink from across the region.

There’ll also be free activities for kids, the chance to take part in a range of food and drink workshops and more.

Shrewsbury Food Festival was named the region’s number one in a What’s On Magazine poll earlier this year and it has also just been named the second best in the UK by the Sunday Mirror.

Beth Heath, the event’s chief executive, said: “We’re delighted to be named the second best food festival in the UK.

“It’s remarkable.”

The fifth Shrewsbury Food Festival will take place in the town’s Quarry Park on June 24 and 25 and tickets are available now at www.shrewsburyfoodfestival.co.uk
