V Festival 2017: Drive safely message issued to festival-goers

Drive safely is the message to thousands of people from across the country set to drive into Shropshire later this month for V Festival.

Festival goers have been given a "flowery" check list to help them have a good journey by the TTC Group, a road safety and driver education organisation based in Telford.

Drivers are advised to pre-plan their trip to Weston Park in Staffordshire and Hylands Park in Chelmsford, Essex, on August 19 and 20 with a road map or sat nav and to check social media or traffic apps for traffic delays before setting off.

Flowery is the festival word to remember to check fuel, lights, oil, water, electrics, rubber tyres and that you are fit to drive, says the group.

The group says avoid distractions by switching off your mobile phone during the trip, wear your seatbelt and keep your distance from the vehicle ahead and ensure you are fit to drive by having enough sleep and don’t drink or drug drive.

One unit of alcohol takes about an hour to leave the body – with one in six motorists caught out the morning after drinking alcohol – which is especially important for those who are returning to work and driving early the next morning.

More than one in five young people have admitted drug driving and 18 per cent of people killed in road crashes have traces of drugs on them.

At the festival site, remember not to leave valuables in the car which alert thieves. Tie a flag to the car to help find it later in the crowded car park, the group adds.

The TTC Group educates more than 300,000 drivers every year, including convicted drink drivers, speeding drivers and minor motoring offenders.
