Ginger and Spice Festival: Final preparations in place for Market Drayton event

Final preparations are being made ahead of an new festival.

Organisers behind the Ginger and Spice Festival in Market Drayton say they are putting the finishing touches to the event, which takes place from September 27 to 30.

The event will include a gingerbread baking contest, a food and drink trail, and stalls.

The festival aims to celebrate the culinary, heritage and historical links of spices, food and gingerbread, to the town of Market Drayton.

Organisers want to encourage locals to reconnect with the town’s food heritage and history, as well as attracting new visitors ho are interested in food, history, culture and travel.

The aim is to grow the festival and for it to be an annual event which will boost visitors to the town and generate more business for locals shops, restaurants, cafes and pubs.

Organisers are appealing for volunteer support in the run up to, and at the festival.

There are a number of of roles available including assistant festival co-ordinator, festival promoters, assistant social media officer, event co-ordinators and stewards.

There are also roles for litter collectors, activities co-ordinators, feedback and evaluation co-ordinators, plus event set up volunteers.

Festival organiser, Julia Roberts of RockIT events, said: "We have a wide variety of exciting volunteer roles available at the Ginger and Spice Festival this year, for those over 18 years of age.

“Not only is volunteering a great way to gain new skills but also a fantastic way to meet new people. This event is celebrating the culinary heritage of Market Drayton and therefore provides a great opportunity to learn as well as connect.”
