Bridgnorth child orchestra hitting the right note
From keyboard and cello to clarinet and flute – a children's orchestra is hitting the right note.
The Bridgnorth Stompers are made up of children from schools in and around the Bridgnorth district.
The group is open to any child in full-time education and welcomes children of any standard who play any instrument.
Led by local musician Karen Kirkland from Shropshire Music Service, they perform all over Shropshire and help raise money for charity.
Ms Kirkland said: "As an orchestra, we have performed all around the county. We regularly perform at the Shropshire Music Service Gala concerts.
"We have performed in the Shrewsbury quarry bandstand, the Shrewsbury food festival and the Theatre Severn.
"Last month, we performed for the second time with the Froncysyllte Male Voice Choir at St Mary's Church in Bridgnorth.
"The concert was a great success, raising funds for the Mayor's charities – the Bridgnorth Hospital League of Friends and the Bridgnorth Scouts and Guides.
"We welcome musicians of all abilities – it is a very inclusive ensemble who really will help you to develop your individual playing as well as teaching you the fundamentals of playing as part of a larger group."
The group rehearses every Wednesday in term time at St John's Catholic Primary School and is always appealing for new members.
There is no minimum grade required to play in the orchestra.
The youngsters currently in the orchestra range from aged nine to 13.
