The Twang play Christmas gig in Birmingham

As Christmas comes, The Twang dust down their electric guitars and return to their home city for a rousing festive show.

This year’s homecoming gig, however, will be a concert with a difference. For the Birmingham band will play the record that made them one of the UK’s hottest acts – their 2007 debut album, Love It When I Feel Like This.

The record injected the charts with its electrifying energy and made The Twang one the most talked about band of the year while earning them the title of the ‘Best New Band in Britain’ (NME).

Fans can look forward to hearing it in full tomorrow at Birmingham’s O2 Academy, with support from Jaws, Ivory Wave and Cut Glass Kings.

The Twang feature frontman Phil Etheridge alongside Martin Saunders, Jon Watkin, Ash Sheehan and Stu Hartland.

Since their debut, they’ve followed with Jewellery Quarter, 10:20, NEONTWANG and a greatest hits offering, released in November.

Phil is proud that the band have stayed together and made music that has had an effect on people’s lives.

“It was always the dream to soundtrack people’s nights out (or mornings after) and the thought of someone listening to us and finding something in it like I do with so many of my favourite bands is all I really ever wanted.”

The record industry has changed completed in the band’s 10-year history.

Phil adds: “Well, we don’t sell any records I can tell ya that . . .In fact, I just got Apple Music and I find it a bit sad that any album I want I can just get straight away. I used to love going HMV on Saturday with my tenner to buy a record. I can remember where I was when I bought most the records in my collection even to what I was probably wearing. It was an event and I treasured them and listened to them non-stop until I bought my next one.”
