CD hits the spot for James fan

Caught up on the drama of a huge fire that engulfed a car park at Liverpool arena, Shane Swannick had more important things on his mind than his CD collection.

But once the smoke had cleared, it became apparent his car, which was among more than 1,400 damaged in the New Year's Eve blaze, was not salvageable.

So getting in touch with his insurer was one way Shane could take back control of a sticky situation.

Shane and his wife attended the annual New Year's Eve Horse Show held at the arena each year and always went to the afternoon performance.

During the show, announcements came over the tannoy that there was an ongoing incident in the car park but it was only when the couple came out that they realised the scale of the fire and that, perhaps, they would be seeing in the New Year in away from home.

Their belongings had gone up in flames but they realised how lucky they had been.

On returning to their home in Minsterley the next day, Shane set about contacting his insurers, Liverpool Victoria who swiftly dealt with his claim. To express his thanks he posted a message on Twitter praising them for their speedy actions.

But unknown to him, the insurers social media team had one almighty trick up their sleeve and they contacted him saying they would send him something in the post.

They had seen him post about a treasured signed CD from the 1990s hit band James, which he had in the car and which he lost in the fire in a separate thread on Twitter.

So they contacted the band and this week an envelope arrived at Shane's house containing not only a replacement CD but also a signed poster for his wall.

Shane said: "When I realised I had lost the CD I was a bit wound up about that.

"And I thought that was the end of it until Thursday morning when that envelope arrived in the post.

"I opened it and it took my brain a long time to work out what had happened. There was an A4 signed poster of the album I had lost and a greetings card and then there was the CD.

"So I opened the card and then the penny dropped. There was a handwritten note from the guys in the social media team that had been dealing with me and who thanked me for my comments on Twitter. That absolutely blew me away, that they have gone that extra mile. That was just the icing on the cake."
