Amy Lou, who works in a sunbed shop and was 30 weeks pregnant at the time of the audition, received a standing ovation following her performance of Beyonce's smash-hit Listen on the ITV programme.

Ant & Dec are back hosting the 2023 series with judges Amanda Holden, Alesha Dixon, Bruno Tonioli and Simon Cowell.

Amy's incredible performance earned her four yes votes and Simon admitted that he was her biggest fan. Amy, who also has a four-year-old and was watched in the audience by her parents and partner, of course sailed through to the next round.

She has also drawn praise from close friends and from Wolves legend Steve Bull, himself born and bred in Tipton and who posted a message of support on his Facebook page.

He said: "Wow!! Our kid Alan Bull told me about his friend Amy Lou from Tipton who has just performed on Britain's Got Talent.

"Absolutely brilliant - well what do you expect coming from Tipton!!

"Wishing a fellow Tiptonian loads of luck in the show."

Her friend Lee also took to social media to praise her performance on Twitter.

He said: "I’m just over the moon that my Amy Lou has been shown so much love on BGT.

"She is honestly the most amazing person in this world and so happy to call her my best friend."

While delivering his vote and to the annoyance of some Black Country residents, Simon said: "By the way, my mum was from Birmingham so I am a Brummie."

Scores of people quickly rushed to social media to say: "She's no Brummie, she's from Tipton!".

Britain's Got Talent returned last night with a lineup of hopefuls, including 34-year-old Amy, who were determined to impress the judges.

Alesha said: “That was by far my favourite audition so far!”

Amanda added: “The moment you started singing I was covered in goosebumps. I was thinking your baby is probably having a lovely little sleep in there and the she’s gone ‘oh, here we go!’. You are a star.”

Britain’s Got Talent’s latest series continues Saturdays on ITV1 and ITVX.

As always acts are going head to head to win the opportunity to perform at the Royal Variety Performance and a £250k cash prize.
