New Lead soprano joins Birmingham Savoyards Gilbert & Sullivan Society

Birmingham Savoyards Gilbert & Sullivan Society is delighted to welcome a new lead soprano, Zara Donaldson, to their ranks, for their forthcoming production of the much loved operetta The Mikado, which they will perform at The Old Rep Theatre in Birmingham between March 6-8..

Zara is currently studying a Masters Degree in classical voice at Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance, under the teachings of Patricia Rozario. 

Zara has been involved in an array of performances including singing lead role of Giulietta in Bellini’s Capuletti e I Montecchi for the University of Redlands Conservatory California.

Last March Zara was a soloist in the UK debut of Considering Matthew Shepherd with Royal Leamington Spa Bach Choir. This past summer she also attended the Berlin Opera Academy as an Elisavet Chatzivasileiou scholar, to perform the role of the Dew Fairy in Humperdinck’s Hansel und Gretel.

Whilst studying, she has performed the roles of Ophelie from Thomas’ Hamlet, Despina from Mozart’s Cosi Fan Tutte and First lady in Mozart’s Die Zauberflöte, Fenena in Verdi’s Nabucco and Flora in Britten’s Turn of the Screw in the Trinity Laban opera scenes.

Zara, originally from Solihull, is excited to return to the Midlands to debut her role as Yum Yum with the Birmingham Savoyards.
