First trail statue arrives at Severn Valley Railway station

The first Catch Me Who Can trail statue rolled in to the Bridgnorth station on-board the 100 year-old 2857 Steam engine yesterday afternoon.

Designed and produced by Bridgnorth artist Tania Holland, the sculpture is the first of twelve to be installed across Bridgnorth in the coming days.

The miniature locomotive, which can now be spotted outside the station entrance, is decorated with historic newspaper articles, all of which are linked to the station's past.

"It's the icing on the cake," said Nick Ralls, the Severn Valley station manager.

He added: “We’re delighted to be working with Bridgnorth Council on this exciting project to attract people to the wonderful town.

"The trail will add another element to Bridgnorth’s appeal as a destination to day trippers, holiday makers and our own passengers alike”

Grainger and Worrall, based in Bridgnorth were responsible for designing and casting the statues.

Their lead apprentice Ella Jons, attended the event yesterday afternoon to see the project come to life.

Members of the public were also welcomed to the station, to see the statue arrive in style.

Also present was Councillor Sarah Stevens, Lewis Maddox of Severn Valley Railway and artist Tania Holland.

Councillor Julia Buckley, who lead the project, said the volunteers involved with the project are delighted.

She added: “All the volunteers involved in the trail are delighted to see the fruits of their labour after a year of hard work.

"Other towns pay over £200,000 for similar trail. We have managed everything from the generosity of sponsors and time and hard work of volunteers.

"The trail opening celebrates not just the launch of a free family activity but also a boost to the local economy from tourism and art lovers like. Bridgnorth is ready for your visit.”

The Mayor of Bridgnorth, Ron Whittle, will be officially opening the trail this Saturday at 11am on Bridgnorth High Street.
