Bridgnorth District and Arts Society opened its 33rd annual exhibition.

This year saw a record number of entries, with over 150 pieces now being displayed in St Leonard's Church in Bridgnorth.

Mayor Ron Whittle alongside his wife Carol, officially opened the exhibition, alongside members of the society.

The exhibition Art in the Pews is now open to the public and features a range of artistic mediums and styles.

The display aims to showcase some of the unique talent within Bridgnorth, explained Mike Draper, BDAS exhibition coordinator.

He added: “The exhibition is our society’s shop window to the people of Bridgnorth and the surrounding area.

"As well as giving our members the chance to showcase their artistic talents, visitors will also have the opportunity to purchase some wonderful original works at prices to suit all pockets.

"We look forward to welcoming local people and visitors to Bridgnorth to our exhibition.”

First established back in 1985, the Bridgnorth District Art Society is open to abilities and styles, from beginners and keen amateurs through to professionals.

The society aims to get local people involved with art by holding holding weekly painting sessions and monthly art demonstrations.

Mr Draper said: "Our annual exhibition is now in its 33rd year and continues to go from strength to strength. The 2017 event was extremely successful in terms of visitor numbers and art sales and we’re confident that we will see a similar outcome this year."

The church is open form 11am until 4pm every day.
