Blackbeard’s ship docks in Birmingham to launch escape room adventure
A sinking pirate ship has docked in Birmingham to mark the launch of an escape room adventure.
World-famous 3D artists Joe & Max, a street art company, unveiled their interpretation of Blackbeard's ship on Upper New Street.
The painting makes the arrival of Escape Hunt Birmingham's brand-new adventure, Blackbeard's Treasure.
Joe Hill, one half of 3D Joe & Max, said: “Our artwork is all about engaging people so that they become a piece of the artwork by simply standing in it.
"Captivating people with our street art is what drives us to produce unique art time and time again and to different audiences around the world.
"We really enjoyed bringing the sinking Blackbeard’s galleon to life, adding a touch of Birmingham in the form of Ozzy Osbourne.
"We’re looking forward to stepping out of our artwork to get lost in the real escape room.”
The anamorphic panting includes rock legend Ozzy Osbourne among the ship's wreckage.
Escape Hunt are calling for people who want to help save Blackbeard's ship to book in to Escape Hunt on Corporation Street.
The game, which opened on September 14, transports players back in time, to Captain Blackbeard's galleon.
Players will search for the captain's loot, but find themselves trapped aboard – with 60 minutes before they go down with the ship to solve a series of puzzles to make it out alive.
Bradley Wynne, Creative Director, at Escape Hunt Birmingham, said: “Blackbeard’s Treasure is now open and today we shared another immersive experience with the city, thanks to the help of 3D Joe & Max.
"We hope this brilliant artwork encourages local residents to be sucked into the sinking ship for real at Escape Hunt Birmingham.”
The game begins with a mission briefing from a talented Games Master, followed by an hour to crack a series of clues and puzzles.
Games are suitable for players age 10 or over. Anyone aged under 16 must be accompanied by an adult.
Entrance costs £25 per person for groups of two to three and £20 per person for groups of four to six.
