The South Shropshire Discovery Centre, in Craven Arms, has a packed programme of events lined up and centre marketing and development officer Jade Marriott-Lodge is looking forward to welcoming visitors through the doors.

She said: “Spring is a wonderful time at the Discovery Centre. The meadows are suddenly springing in to life and the weather is getting warmer, with visitors coming to enjoy our site and surrounding hills. We are looking forward to a jam-packed Easter holidays, with children’s activities every weekday from April 15-26.”

Entrance to the centre and meadows is free, so visitors can enjoy the walks and sights for as long as they like, any day of the week.

The centre’s award winning café has a specially selected Mother’s Day menu and there is fun next month when children can become “Remarkable Romans” for the holidays. They can try a snack and try eating it lying on a ‘couch’, plan a banquet and do maths homework with Roman numeral on a tablet. Entrance is £4 per accompanied 4-11 year old, booking advised.

On April 16, children can bake a Libum, the sweet cheesecake sometimes offered to household spirits; cook an egg dish, the most popular of all Roman appetizer ingredients and pottage their main food, then finish with a date and nut sweet. Entrance is £7.50 per accompanied 4-11 year old. Booking is essential.

There will also be an Easter Crafts Drop In on April 19 from 11am-4pm.

Jade added: "Spend Good Friday with the team at the Discovery Centre trying your hand at fun, seasonal crafts; from 3D eggs to sheep with fluffy paint, yellow fork painted chicks to paper rabbits disappearing."

The centre is also home to Shropshire's larger than life mammoth.
