Seals arrive at Birmingham Sea Life Centre in new multi-million pound exhibit - review with pictures and video

Miley and Boo are being cared for at the centre’s brand new multi-million pound rescue facility after they were each diagnosed with medical conditions which would prevent them from thriving in the wild.

With the new area spanning two floors of the city centre attraction, the delightful animals can be seen swimming, diving and playing from a number of angles - including a glass box within their living area for an immersive view.

Boo is five years old and was rescued as a pup just a week after being born, with physiological and neurological health issues which experts believe would cause issues in the wild.

Miley, meanwhile, was an abandoned pup, rescued at just two days old from Old Hunstanton Beach in 2012 after problems in the water led her to being washed up on to land.

She has a long-term thyroid problem which can only be controlled with daily medication, says the centre.

The pair, fostered by the team at Birmingham from Sea Life Centres in Scarborough and Hunstanton, are an absolute delight to watch; their seemingly joyful, friendly characters enchanting visitors as the seals swim up to the glass and glide through the water.

This behaviour, coupled with the huge glass screens through which they can be viewed, means customers can get a great, up-close view of the stunning creatures - and they’re well worth a visit.

The area also has a number of interactive information boards, where fans of the seals can learn more about the aquatic mammals.

This latest attraction at the city centre venue, which opened on April 13, adds to the already wide variety of creatures which can be seen at the centre, from sharks, to penguins, jellyfish, rays, seahorses, piranhas, turtles and more.

A great new addition to a lovely, educational and entertaining landmark venue.
