Claverley Flower Festival shows off creative displays - with video
A peacock and a ram were on display in a Shropshire village’s church – but both were created using flowers.
Claverley’s 41st annual flower festival was held in All Saints’ Church – and about 40 flower arrangements were on show from individuals or groups.
Flower arrangers chose a number of different designs for the festival, which followed this year’s theme of “Not just a flower arranger, but also”.
Three generations of the same family took part in the festival.
Grandmother Sandra Hunt created a flower arrangement about being a market stall holder and her daughter Tracy Stone created an arrangement with the theme of skiing.
Meanwhile, her daughter Megan Stone, focused on the theme of graduating as she recently left university herself.
There was also a cricket theme, cake decorating, and an arrangement about being a female company director.
Claverley Primary School and Claverley Toddlers group both created exhibitions, with the toddlers group creating hungry caterpillars.
The event is the flower guild’s biggest fundraising event of the year, and the funds will go towards the church which needs almost £100,000 for repairs.
Rev Garry Ward said that about £6,000 was raised at the festival.
He said: “It went really well, we had more than 1,100 people through over the weekend.
“We made a profit of £6,000 too for the church.
“Everyone was really pleased with how it went, it was probably one of the best we have had yet.”
Parts of the church were built in the year 675 and now its roof, lights, organ and bells need repairs.
About £10,000 is needed for maintenance of the church roof.
A total of £50,000 is also needed to fix the lights, meanwhile £40,000 needs to be raised for the organ to be refurbished.
