'Excellent' start for Peter Pan panto
The curtains have opened on Bridgnorth theatre's performance of Peter Pan.
And so far, after opening on Saturday, Theatre on the Steps directors say the show has been wowing audiences all week.
The adaptation features 12 performances of laughs, lively dancing and toe tapping music combined with flying sequences which have been specially choreographed for the theatre.
The production is being directed by Christine Reddihough, with music by Julian Brown and choreography by Poppy Mansfield.
Iain Reddihough, artistic director at the Theatre on the Steps said: "Peter Pan is probably the most ambitious pantomime we have stage at the theatre and we were extremely nervous about the flying sequences – but they all went well over the weekend and the audiences seemed to love them.
"The show is a colourful spectacle from start to finish with backdrops designed and painted by Cheryl Wilson and James Barber, with costumes by Susan Crawford.
"It was great to see, once again, so many children at the performances over the weekend, and with our own Youth on the Steps members as the chorus, it truly is a show for families.
"With some very good houses it was an excellent start to the run and we can now settle down and enjoy the rest of the performances through until the end of January.
"With tickets available for most performances we are hoping that those who have seen the show will encourage others to come along and laugh, sing and fly with us for the rest of Peter Pan."
Peter Pan by author JM Barrie tells the classic tale of the magical journey of children Wendy, Michael and John Darling as they follow Peter Pan into Neverland, a place where children never grow old. There they encounter the Lost Boys, Indians and mermaids in adventure after adventure.
Leading roles are being played by Abigael Russel as Wendy, Emily Turner as Peter Pan, Oliver Caulder as Michael, Elliot Andreae as John, Jessica Robins as Tinkerbel, Ben Hollas as the evil Captain Hook, hapless sidekicks, Rachel Reddihough as Smee, and Roger Bargery as Starkey.
