Greg Davies joins line-up for festival of funny in Birmingham
Bafta-nominated funny man Greg Davies will return to Birmingham as part of the city’s comedy festival.
The star of Cuckoo, Man Down, The Inbetweeners and Taskmaster, is back with his first stand-up show in four years.
Fans can join ‘undoubtedly one of the kingpins of British comedy’ (Evening Standard) on his biggest ever tour, playing You Magnificent Beast. It will feature at Birmingham Symphony Hall on Monday and Tuesday.
Greg grew up in Wem, in Shropshire, and formerly worked as a teacher before turning to comedy.
He went to Thomas Adams School and Brunel University, where he studied English and Drama, before working as a teacher for 13 years.
A recent TV programme unearthed new details about his past when Greg featured in the BBC genealogy series Who Do You Think You Are?
He traced his father’s family origins in Porthmadog, North Wales, and discovered that both his paternal grandmother, Edith, and her sister, Rebecca, were illegitimate.
His great-grandfather William Owen had a second family who were brought up in Stanleytown in the Rhondda Valley, South Wales. Like many people in North Wales, Greg also claimed descent from Owain Gwynedd.
Talent
The show is part of the Birmingham Comedy Festival 2017, the annual 10-day city-wide mirth-filled extravaganza that mixes big comedy names with emerging talent.
This year’s festival sees over 60 performances including Greg, Doctor Who and Little Britain star Matt Lucas, Brian Pern (aka Simon Day), Henning Wehn and Monty Python musical Spamalot!
There are also appearances from Simon Amstell, Mrs Barbara Nice, Phill Jupitus, Comedy Central’s Impractical Jokers and two chances to catch Joe Lycett.
