New gardens opening up for National Garden Scheme

Two new gardens will be opening up to visitors as part of the National Garden Scheme this weekend.

Lower Brookshill

Lower Brookshill, in Minsterley, opens from 2pm to 6pm on Sunday.

Tucked away in the folds of the south Shropshire Hills, this garden features more than 10 acres of woodland, plant-packed borders, many ponds, streams and water features to enjoy.

Another garden opening is 2 School Cottages in Shrewsbury, from 1pm to 5pm.

Opening for the second time this year, this new NGS garden features formal and informal planting, woodland walks, pasture, wildlife areas, packed and colourful borders, vegetables, chickens and pigs, plus a large oriental garden.

Another garden opening up this weekend is Wharf House in Tenbury Wells.

Wharf House is a two-acre country garden set around an 18th Century house and outbuildings.

There are mixed herbaceous borders with some colour theming including 'hot' beds and yellow bed, white garden, double border, courtyards, stream, and a vegetable garden.

The garden is on several levels, with very limited wheelchair access and some uneven paths. Parking is 600 yards from the garden.

The National Garden Scheme raises money for nursing and caring charities, including Macmillan, Marie Curie, Hospices UK, Parkinson's UK and others. A full list of the NGS beneficiaries can be found at https://www.ngs.org.uk/who-we-are/beneficiaries.
