The V Festival was today hailed a success despite the death of Timothy Brockhurst.

Police reported fewer arrests than normal as a good-natured crowd enjoyed music from The Killers, The Stone Roses, Snow Patrol and Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds.

Fans from across the Midlands and the north were leaving the site today, after partying for three nights at the Weston Park showground.

Police and stewards mounted a traffic management operation to prevent delays on local roads, including the A5, A49 and M54.

They also encouraged the 35,000 people who pitched tents to take them home – because in previous years people have abandoned camping equipment following their weekend on site.

V organisers said the audience had been well behaved and had enjoyed the best of alternative, rock, indie and dance music.

Fans partied long into the night after enjoying last night's closing sets.
