More than 95,000 music fans are set to attend the two-day festival, with hundreds of cars already queuing at the entrance of Weston Park when the gates opened at 9am.

Although the start of the annual festival was a wet one, the August weather failed to dampen the spirits of those eager to be first on site.

Kirsty Armour and Adam Routley were two of the first to arrive.

Kirsty, 26, an accountant in Telford, said: "It's our first time camping V-style. We came early because we wanted to beat the traffic. I am most looking forward to seeing Beyonce, I can't wait."

Heavy rain throughout the night caused the grounds of the stately home to become a mudbath within the first hour of campers arriving.

Revellers with weekend camping tickets battled across the car park and muddy fields to set up camp before live acts start at noon tomorrow with The Saturdays opening the Virgin Media stage.

Despite the wet weather looking good was high on the agenda for one Telford music lover.

Setting up her tent with rollers in her hair was Amber Billingham, 17. The New College student said: "We left at 5am, it was pouring but we were so eager to get here. The weather is all part of the atmosphere. We got our tickets as soon as they were announced and have been so excited. I can't wait to see Beyonce but, whatever the weather, I want good hair for the festival!"

Beyonce will close the event with a headline set on Sunday while American rockers Kings of Leon return to headline Saturday night.
