"Original bands tend to get a lot of column inches, but covers bands don't," says Mike Holloway, founder, singer and lead guitarist with the HMV Band.

But despite that lack of publicity, the HMV Band isn't short of work. Far from it.

In fact - Mike and colleagues Marc Swain (keyboards), Steve Latrine (bass/vocals) and Pete Lamb (drums) are playing more than 120 gigs a year in Shropshire and the Midlands.

"We play anything from Robert Johnson to Jessie J to anything in between," says Mike, of Jackfield.

So the band can play a lot of songs, but which ones are going to be in the evening's set list is a different story.

"When it comes to songs I'll text people in the morning and expect them to play it in the evening," says the singer, who formed the band in 2002.

"That keeps it interesting."

  • The HMV Band will be playing at The Bear Inn in Bridgnorth on November 2 and The Malthouse in Ironbridge on November 5. For more details visit their website here.
