Englebert has been a legend in the international music industry for more than 40 years, with over 150 million records sold.
He has received four Grammy nominations, a Golden Globe for Entertainer of the Year, 63 gold and 24 platinum records plus a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
So did I have high hopes for my Sunday evening entertainment? Well, almost, after all Englebert Humperdinck – aka Arnold Dorsey - is 75 years old and leapt into the charts way back in 1967 with his hit Release Me. I'm a sucker for a night that livens me up, entertains me and gets the audience going – but I wasn't sure what the King of Romance would have in store.
I needn't have worried, Englebert Humperdinck was nothing less than fantastic to watch in concert, winging his way to one of the best live performances I've ever seen. He remains an entertainer with style, sophistication, a glorious voice and a wink for the ladies!
The night sailed from old classics, to songs from his new album 'Released' intermingled with some tales, footage of famous Englebert moments – including a duet with Dean Martin – and glorious musical interludes from his hugely talented band.
A huge voice, a wonderfully easy to watch entertainer, a support comedian – with a little comedy thrown in by the man himself – he was a star from a golden age.
