Pop superstar Jessie J is to play a massive outdoor concert in Shropshire this summer, it was announced today.

The chart-topping singer – a judge on BBC1 talent show The Voice – is expected to play to a sell-out 10,000 crowd at the Quarry in Shrewsbury on July 6. Organisers say it will be the 'biggest event ever held' in the town centre park.

Tickets went on sale this morning.

Helen Ball, town clerk for Shrewsbury Town Council, which manages the Quarry, said: "We are thrilled to be welcoming Jessie J for our summer concert.

"Securing an artist of this calibre firmly establishes the Quarry as a leading music venue for Shropshire.

"Jessie J is certainly the woman of the moment with the launch of The Voice, and I'm sure the tickets will sell like hot cakes."

Last year, Status Quo attracted 7,000 fans to the venue.

In The Voice, Jessie J is competing against Sir Tom Jones, Black Eyed Peas rapper will.i.am and The Script star Danny O'Donoghue to find the best vocal talent in the UK.

The show aired for the first time on Saturday and producers claimed victory in a ratings war with ITV's Britain's Got Talent.

Viewing figures showed that BGT pulled in a peak audience of 12.2m.

The Voice's peak was 2.4m fewer at 9.8m.

However, the BBC said The Voice beat BGT when the two shows overlapped, with its show averaging 8.96m against BGT's 6.56m in the 20 minutes after 8pm.

Jessie J came to prominence with her debut single 'Do It Like a Dude', which reached number two.

She went one better with follow-up single 'Price Tag' which was number one in the UK, as well as in France, Ireland and New Zealand.

The singer won the 2011 Critics' Choice BRIT Award and the BBC's Sound of 2011. Tickets for the show will be £32.50 for adults and £20 for children.

They can be booked by calling the Theatre Severn box office on (01743) 281281 or visiting www.kalmusic.co.uk.
