Multi-million selling American rock group Wheatus will play a one-off concert in Telford this month.

The New Yorkers, famed for their 2000 single Teenage Dirtbag, will be playing at Wellington's new venue Arena 1, Rechabite Hall on May 26.

To date the band's first record has sold more than five million copies worldwide and cracked the top 40 charts for a second time in March 2011, 10 years after its first release. Doors will open at 7.30pm and tickets cost £10 in advance or £12 on the door.

Also on the line-up is electro-indie rock band The Madoc Vanguard, from Oswestry, who have been chosen to play to crowds before Wheatus take to the stage.

Luke Middleton, from the Oswestry band, said they were booked in to play at the venue before the members knew Wheatus were coming.

He said: "We are really lucky. They must have checked us out and thought we are okay. We are all excited about it. We have never played for a band as big as Wheatus. We did play Osfest

"I remember Wheatus from when I was at college and they used to be on the television.

"I have been looking at their stuff on digital download and they have evolved a lot and have some good stuff."
